help with a squealing/grinding noise

ok there is this squealing/grinding noise (sorry about the bad description) coming from the right side of my 1990 4runner. it is always there when i am moving. it goes away when i stop. i can only hear it when i pass cars or are by some kind of wall or object that kinda reflects the noise back up at me. when i apply the brakes it doesnt get worse or anything if that helps. any ideas?

Right side hub comes to my mind.
It could be a bearing going out, I am only taking a stab here.

Jack up your rig on the right side and then grab your tire at the 6 & 12 position and whiggle it back and forth.
See if you have play in it.

Some tire shops do "free" tests also to see what kind of shape your front end is in.
Might try that and see if they can find anything wrong with your front end.

When was the last time your frontend was torn down and the grease repacked in the hubs & bearings?

I had mine done when I had my new rotors & pads put on last fall.

If you have not already, download the 20.2 mb Zip file on Dan's page.

It's a factory manual I beleive on CD.
I have it, but have not looked at it too much.

It cost me $500, but that was with other labor too such as brand new rotors, disc pads, brake fluid flush, and readjusting the rear brakes.

If you want the dealer to repack them, they can probably give you a phone quote.

They can also tell you if that's where the noise is coming from.
