Help, serious problem with 4runner

I'm having a problem with my 96 4runner sr5. Sometimes when i put the vehicle in gear, the engine almost stalls before it goes ahead and moves. It's almost like the car isn't getting gas when it is put in gear. Second, my truck has been extremely sluggish lately. Any suggestions to correct these problems?

Donno about the shifting question...but, I would take it somewhere where they can check the tranny and diff fluids. My '89 4runner had the same problem, and it was just that the diff oil was pretty much gummed up.

As for the sluggishness, I would change out your distributor cap/rotor, sparkplug and wires. That always adds a few more HP.

sounds like once you kick it in gear, your torque converter is trying to spin but it cant because your fluid has hardened up or something. or your tranny is grabbing too hard.

check/change your fluids

I would do a tune-up and go from there.

I agree...a tune-up usually solves a lot of that kinda stuff, hope it does in your situation man.
