Today I replace the battery in my 01 Tacoma. I changed it because the starting appeared to be a little labored. Not bad but after the vehicle sat for awhile it did not want to start with the vigor one would expect. After replacing the battery my problems began. When I first connect the neg. on the new battery the light relays begin clicking on and off. The dash lights do the same thing. Interior dome light is normal, map lights are normal and headlights are normal. Turning the ingition all the way does nothing. Starter does not spin. I put the old battery back in and same results. I put the new battery back in same results. If I wait sometimes the relays quit. Sometimes they quit and start back. Closing the door will make them start again. Anybody seen anything like this. Could a defective starter cause this. The relays I am hearing are the tail light relay in the fuse block under the hood and another under the dash. Any help would be appreciated. Also the light in the glove box flashes on and off.
