Hella Rallye 4000 Compact!

I can't believe they finally made the light I really want, in the right size! The new 4000 compact is only slightly larger than a 500. They've redesigned the reflector using FF technology, so it should perform just like the original larger size. Oh man I can't wait to sell my 500's and 1000's and get 4 4000's.

Performace Products has them for $119.95/each in black. So they're about the same price as the 1000's.

Those are very nice. Personally, I would have opted for these a few years back - had they been available. I installed a set of the full-size 4000 Eurobeams in '02 and could not be happier with their durability, output, and overall performance. Hmm, time to sell these and get the smaller ones....?

I saw those the other day. Looks like a good idea. I had the 4000's at one time, but was kinda dissapointed with the output. I sold them and got a set of IPF MSR 900's and am totally satisfied. Much better light output. Of course, this was before Hella use the FF reflector in the 4000's. They might be better now.

Don't come with bulbs or covers

Update > So I got two of the 4000 compacts and unlike their larger counterparts, they don't come with bulbs or stone shields. The word I got from the customer service rep at Hella was that they are still to new and Hella hasn't even made covers for the. Which is a bummer b/c I really can't put them up top until I get some covers for them. Appearently I was really lucky to get them this early. They will have covers for them at some point in the future.

So now I'm wondering if there are any generic covers that will fit them or any other light that's the same dimensions. It looks like the Lightforce 170's are the same diameter, anyone have a set of lf170 covers they don't need?

Marshall,
That seems very odd that the lamps would not come with bulbs. Where did you buy from?

As for the covers, I used to keep them on my 4000s, but in the end I figured it would draw too much attention to them (theft). So I've left the covers off since about 05/02. That represents about 60,000 highway and back roads miles without a stone chip or crack.

Do you need covers because your state requires them?

Andreas

I think you are allowed up to 4 lights on at one time on your vehicles (headlights + set of aux. lights), then you have the rest covered up so that they can't be turned on while on the road. I never had had mine covered in many, many years and never had any problems. I was actually worried about people stealing my covers instead of the lights.

I would love to leave them uncovered, actually when I first put the 1000's on, I drove around with them for about 6mo. coverless. Until my brother got pulled over for having his lights uncovered. The cops solved the "question" for us that they have to be covered. In PA, anything higher than the hood has to be covered so you can't just light 'em up on the road. Oh well

Andreas, I got them from Performance Products who seems to be the only company that has them. According to Hella that's the way they're sold, the Hella rep couldn't tell me why and didn't exactly agree with it, but that's they way it is. The whole bulb thing is no biggie though, they're cheep and I have a set of them already. Actually the Hella rep was surprised I'd gotten some, b/c it's so soon to them being announced.

They are great lights thought from a design standpoint The mounting setup is worlds better than any other hella light I've owned.

Edit: Oh yeah, today I ran accross this, thought it might be helpful for all of us worried about getting lights stolen. Lock nuts for your lamps. Clicky

I have the Black Magics and have to use the Rallye 1000 covers for mine. There's no specific cover for the Black Magics. Maybe there's another Hella cover that will fit yours?

I think they made the rallye 2000's into the Black Magics series. They're the same size as the old Rallye 1000's. Both of with are about 3/4" larger than the 4000 compacts unfortunatly. Good thought. Their profile is identical, but I don't think they ever made a rallye series light this size. Even the new 3000 compacts are larger. I think that I'll just have to wait or try to find a cheap pair of the cloth KC cintch covers and paint them black temporarily.
