Question Heavy Duty or not?

So comes the time for the butt lift on my rig. I just got off of the phone with a rep at Downey and he stated it was a toss up if I should get the HD's or not. He also stated that bilstiens would not work. I am baffled by that.... I know that some of you in here did not get the longer bilstiens, but it is recomended. So here are my questions:

Get HD's 1.5" or regular 1.5" coils from Downey?

Get regular bils or longer bils?

I am making my purchace this Friday so all your advice will impact my decision by then. BTW - this is a transportation vehicle that does not hardly ever tow anything. It is slowly being converted to a more off road worthy vehicle, but will remain a somewhat stock look.

Thanks in advance!!!!

I believe a number of members with Series 2 Runners were able to add the 1.5" HD coils without replacing their Bilstein shocks.

If you aren't gonna lift any more after you put the Downey's on, just get regular Bilsteins. And, go for the HD Downey - that is what nearly everyone with a 2nd Gen has gone with, and I haven't heard a single complaint yet.

That last part is where you need to decide which spring you want. The HDs are stiffer which will result in a rougher ride on road, but probably a smoother (less bottoming) ride off-road.

If you use it mainly for transportation I'd get the regulars - good shocks will largely compensate for the softness when used off road but the thing won't beat you to death on your daily commute or whatever.

edit: LOL, too much traffic on here - I meant the last part of the original post.

So I guess I will go with the regular coils, but now what about the bilstiens? I would like to have the maximim travel given to me by the coils, just in case. But will the regular bilstiens travel that distance?

I don't see that they make a 5100 series Bilstein for the rears anyways, so I guess I am going with the 1.5" Downey standard coils and the standard Bilsteins.

Thanks for the input!!!

I did the HD's and regular travel Bilsteins. They work great and the ride is very comfortable both on and off road. I really have no complaints at all.
