Heater Control Valve Cable

My heat wasn't working so I popped the hood and discovered a cable with an eyelet just sticking out in the air and the heater valve shut. The valve will move fine, but the eyelet cable wont budge. Is the cable seized or how exactly is that supposed to connect?

Thanks.

This is on a 99 limited 4runner. It's got the digital crap where you change the temp not flip the dial around.

It could be a seized cable .

Not really knowing that system was the vehicle running does the cable move as you change the controls .

Does the AC need to be shut off for the heat cable to move.

Find the FSM for your year figure out how it should work. Compared to how it does work.

the cable you're talking about is servo motor controlled. you can have one of 3 problems:

1. cable seized. probably not likely
2. servo to the controls failed. possible.
3. electronic buttons which call for actuation have failed. most common.

you'll most likely have to replace the controls.

this is a good read on the subject:

keep google searching for "99 4runner auto climate controls" and you may find better info than this. good luck

Reading through that thread, I dont really seem to be having any problems with the buttons. It sounds like when they go out, people can't even get the unit to respond, but mine does (although changing the temperature up and down is kind of fun cause it tends to go the opposite way you turn it at first).

Maybe its the servo motor, but it from what i've read it sounds like I would hear that actually going out. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/f...oblems-127190/

I'm also wondering how that cable ended up off of the switch on the heater valve.

the thread you posted appears to have your answer, including a parts diagram and a how-to step-by-step for fixing a failed servo. did you read it all the way through?

Well, the servo sounds good up until the dial says 74 degrees. Then i don't hear anything, no clicking, no grinding, no nothing. I'm thinking its electrical up at the dial, because if it was the gears i think something would be happening down at the motor.
