Heads up on Fuel Sender TSB
Just to let you guys know, if your fuel gauge starts acting weird...take it in and have them check to see if it falls under the TSB that was issued a while back.
Mine sure does, I would start the rig up and it would be full where I left it, go to the store, come back out, start her up and the darn thing would be on empty...friggin weird.
There was a TSB that listed 2 parts that could be affected, in my particular case it was the Fuel Sending assembly...some other cases it was the actual gauge reading the sending information wrong.
Just thought I would give ya'll a heads up!
It runs about $300 for the stuff I'm getting done, not sure how much for the gauge itself.

I have also called on this but they service tech told me that it is only covered under warranty for 3/36,000. I can't see paying the cost. I know now that I can run the gas gauge past E and I still have gas left.

In all honesty guys, the tank and the sending unit for that matter are not that hard to get to. While I would not screw around with fuel too much if I was the average Joe mechanic, it really is only a 3 - 5 hour project. If it bugs you that bad and the dealer won't cover it, I would consider picking up a FSM (or downloading the section off the TIS website), buying the right tools, and getting the part(s) needed to do the job on your own. All for less than the dealer would do it for.

Well, I just talked to my buddy at the dealer and they said that they are getting a flood of people who are having this problem and they said that it may be 'upgarded' to a recall...so they said to wait a week and see what Toyota says. If they don't, my dealer has agreed to split the cost of it with me...not a bad deal!
I wish mine was consistent, but it varies by sometimes 3/4 of a tank...its pretty crazy to watch, I can sometimes watch the needle move around while I'm driving. LoL.

OK...so they replaced the Fuel Sender and all related hardware yada yada...got it home, worked for about 2 hours, when I left to go out for the night it said I had no gas and the light was blinking....not good as I had just filled up before I took it home.
I go back to the dealer the next day, they inspect it...turns out that the TSB brought up via my VIN number was wrong. There were two different TSB's, one just for the fuel sender and hardware and then one for the fuel sender, hardware and circuit board that tells the gauge how much fuel I have. I guess my circuit board was shot too. I was pi$$ed!! Not only did I just pay them over 200 bucks to do the fuel sender, now the new part was gonna cost me the same amount! So I talked to my buddy there at the dealer (he was off the day I went back about it) and he said that he would call Toyota and see what they could do. Toyota KICKS A$$! They said that since they're comptuer returned the wrong information, I was going to be reimbursed for the initial service AND they would pay for the circuit board plus labor. All in all, its only gonna cost me the gas to drive it to and from the dealer. How kick butt is that?
Anyway, my recommendation (sp? i'm having a hard time today) would be to have them check the circuit board before they start ordering anything, that way you know. It's gonna take about a week before the circuit board comes in as the dealer has to fill out a special document with my mileage and all that junk on there because it has to be pre-programmed from the factory.
All in all, not a bad deal!! Just thought I would try and save somebody some hassle with all this junk!

you know fink, if you wouldve REALLY taken the time to search, you would've probably found the actual scanned TSB pages that i posted years ago and would've avoided all this mess.
those scans tell you exactly by VIN range what needs to be replaced

LoL, I saw the actual TSB's from Toyota on the computer screen when we were looking it all up and I mean, the dealer did what it said to do so...hey, I got it all for free though so it was worth the hassle!
