I read here on yotatech that someone rewired the low beam to stay on when you turn on high beams. I would like to know how to do this. did a search with no luck. my truck is a 87 1ton 2WD 22re 5 speed

 

Actually, I think that post was a call for help becaus it was a mistake that the high beams wouldn't go off. Just get an H4 headlight conversion and install some high end bulbs like Silverstar. They are about 50% brighter than stock.

 

I would advise against doing this. You are going to go through a TON of bulbs if you burn both filaments of an H4 at the same time. The excess heat that builds up will cause the filaments to break prematurely. Also, your wiring harness may not be able to handle the extra wattage and may burn up on you as well. Get a set of aux. lights if you need that much extra light. Then you could wire those to come on with your highbeams and have the extra light you need.

 

I run a set of 55/100 watt H4 bulbs in my 4Runner. Gives good light output on low beams, then tons on high beams:

A good H4 housing and bulbs, plus an upgraded wiring harness will do wonders for the Toyota headlights. The stock Toyota wiring is pretty marginal to begin with, add 15-20 years of use on the switches and wiring and it does not get any better.
