Just purchased a '91 4runner and want to know if the head gasket has not been replace by recall, would the recall still be in effect for that year of a truck??

 

Probably, just call your dealer with the VIN #.

I'm assuming you have the 3.0 v6. If it has been replaced there should be a sticker in the engine compartment somewhere showing that it has been done. Although the headgasket and work immediately associated with it is supposed to be no charge, as part of their "service campaign" on the headgasket they are going to try and get you to pay for as much work around it as possible including things like headwork, timing chain, belts and on and on. If it does have to be done, make sure ahead of time what all they are going to do and how they expect you to pony up for it.
