Hey guys I have an 02 taco with 148k. The other day I got gas and the truck didnt want to start at the pump, finally with a little throttle it started and ran crappy for a minute, after that the truck ran fine until I got gas again. same thing happend. I also got a check engine light po171 at the same time.
I have tried taking off the fuel cap and it will start and run fine, its just when i refuel. thanks for the help

 

clogged fuel lines fuel pump fuel filter. start with the cheapest and work your way up

 

Are you topping off more than usual?

I'd stop topping off for starters IF the no start condition is truly linked to fueling up..

I changed the fuel filter, no difference. I dont think it is a clogged line, because the problem is only when I gas up, not really sure though. Im thinking when I fill the tank the gas it triggering some sesor an it is making the system lose its pressure, because when I turn the key I dont even get a spudder like there isnt even gas at the fuel rail. I appreciate the feedback, I really want to figure this out.

 

It ended up being the pwm vacuum switching valve. I changed it, no more check engine, and she likes the gas again
