Yup, my 4runner was on fire when I was awakened by a neighbor. Its gonna be totaled out I bet. Fire started somewhere in dash/console area and destroyed the dash, console, windshield and such. I was able to put it out quick. Nobody was hurt.

I'm so sad and angry right now I just wish I could "wake up" from the dream ya know. I know its only a car but it met so much to me.

Anyone selling a clean 2nd gen or 89-90 PU?
I can't talk about it anymore.

I don't know how bad it is, but you could find a beat one and swap the interior in (was the fire contained to the interior only?).

You know you'll have to post pics as part of the healing process...

 

Yeah, I don't think its feasable. Pretty much every part of the dash ans console was completely destroyed.

The only way I have to take a pic is with my camcorder, i don't know how so maybe I will figure it out lator.

Sorry dude, that sucks. Hope you at least had good insurance. I haven't heard of any fire problems with 4runners before, did you have anything wired straight to the battery without a fuse?

 

Everything was fused per toyta except all the accessories, those all had inline fuses withing a few inches of the battery. Insurance covers fire, but the ammout of maintenance $ and my blood seat and tears dosen't even come close to the value state farm has on it.

i feel for ya, my first vehicle a 94 nissan pickup was destroyed by fire. but it slightly ironic that your a firefighter, and your vehicle is the one that burned. my buddies and i at the firehouse have always discused this especially after autofire calls. but good luck in your quest for a new vehicle, and im sure it will be better than what you had.

 

I'm hoping to get a similer 2nd gen so I can swap a lot of stuff.

so have you figured out exactly HOW it started? thats a scary thought, waking up to the runner on fire...sorry bout that man, i think we all understand and empathize with you, good luck finding a new one

 

The most exact determination I can provide is that a wire or connection shorted (possibly from rain this morning, I park outside) and ignited some plastic or debries before the fuse blew.

So just try to keep your behind dash area clean and dry, be carful where you run wires and use quallity connections and good fuses that are not too strong.

I already got a new 4Runner, certified pre owned from a dealer.

1995 4Runner SR5 Limited, V6, 4x4, Auto, Power everything, red, tan interior, leather seats, great body and frame (NO RUST AT ALL, a TN truck!) and all the works.

Its a stocker but my surco rack, TJM and flares will be carried over. Plus, i get a chance to do the suspension right. It could have been much worse, if I were parked in the garage of if one of the neighbor hood kids waiting for the morning bus was hurt i don't know what I would do.

So I'm still pissed and sad as hell, but I get a newer 4x4 and a chance to do it all again, plus you can all watch the buildup process.

sounds like a great outcome to a crappy situation. not good news for me though...ive got lots of accessories and park outside. however ive been through the wires multiple times, and i know theyre done right, but the thought is very very scary.

sorry to hear about the 4runner. yeah, good advice re keeping things neat and tidy re accessory wiring.

re your new (used) 4runner: how did the toyota dealership certify a 95? that goes against their year and probably their mileage warranty!

Maybe thats the wrong term, I mena its had the uber-million point inspection and repairs were made to everything that was wrong, fluids topped off, AC charged etc.
