Got pulled over -- What mudflaps fit rear?
Yeah, I got pulled over tonight ... need to get bigger mudflaps for the rear?
Will any work, or what? Are there any good replacements for the stock ones ? I have the stockers on right now ... My tires only stick out a little bit.
Cop told me "You're the reason why my windsheild is cracked".

I had to put some on to get my safety passed, went to Autozone and bought some pretty decent ones for $5, then again i'm not working with the stock rear bumper. You could always get some SR5 flares and that extra wheel coverage would probably take care of any problems, just a thought-

It was my understanding that in California, mudflaps are not REQUIRED unless you drive a pickup truck. I didn't think it was against the law to have no flaps on an SUV. Can someone chime in on this?

it sounds like a case of some bad luck. I'd be willing to bet 99% of the cops you passed in cali wouldnt have pulled you over. id say f it and if he gave you a fix it ticket then just put some cheapies on to get it ok'd then take them off and go on your way. just hope he doenst see you again!!

You think the cop was just picking on you?

California Vehicle Code 27600
No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread. This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.
Based on what I've read elsewhere (I don't think this is the entire text of the CVC) the mudflap must cover at least to the height of the axle on the tire.

Hey guys
Check the pirate board but mudflaps are required if the original vehicle from the factory had them. Also the flap must cover the full width of the tire and be atleast 50% of the tire height as well. Don't quote me on all the details but something like that.
You are not alone.....I see alot of lifted american trucks being pulled over and getting fix it tickets. Majority of them are city police officers and not chp.
Just fab some napa flaps and semi truck mounts to be removeable. Works great!

CHP gave me a fix it ticket, he said I had a curtain of water when he was following me on the freeway the day we had a nice down pour. He said my tires stuck out too far from the fender, and that I needed fender flares, and bigger mud flaps. Maybe it was the same CHP officer. I only run 33's on 15x8's and it don't stick out that much.
Anyways, my friend has some cheap black floor mats on his runner. I just bought some Bushwacker extend-a-flare's from Lift Kit Warehouse and left my stock mud flaps on.
