Good Deal on FRS

Word is that starting 02/16/2003 Office Max will offer the Cobra MicroTalk FRS 104 2-Way Radio for $19.99 Less $10 instant rebate plus an additional $10 mail in rebate. Buy two, each one as a seperate order, and mail the rebates to two different addresses. Then go wheeling with a buddy and enjoy your FREE FRS. Great deal if you dont already have a CB and want a cheap basic communication device.

Anyone use FRS's? Please comment on how you like them...

They work good, but get out of range quickly when in mountainous terrain.

I would rather go with the Costco deal:

2 motorola radios
interchangeable faceplates
charger docking station
rechargeable batteries

$39

I've got the Cobra MicroTalk 1050 WX(?). I also purchased the set at Costco for $99 with the chargers. It's a nice set, also has a built in digital compass, which is why I chose it over the Motorola...They're both the same price. I think it's great for it being an FRS. It's supposed to be up to 5 mile range on certain channels, but I'm not sure about that.

Hi,

Are you talking about this set or do you have a local in-store deal for moto radios?

$39 for a pair of moto radios is awesome.

I really like my two FRS radios. They really come in handy for people who don't have a CB and don't want to get one. Another good thing about them is that you can used them away from the truck, like skiing, hiking, hunting, fishing, at the mall, etc. Much cheaper than a CB too. I've even heard that the ski resorts monitor the channel 9-11 for emergencies...don't know it that's true though.

If they're really free, then you might as well get them. Otherwise, the costco ones are a pretty good deal.

FRS radios are pretty cool. They work well. Just make sure that you buy ones that have sub-channels. Just the basic 14 channel ones with have lots of interfierence from other two ways. You will hear every truckers conversation.

I wish it was those!

No, it was a set they had out around Christmas. Not as nice as the link you posted, but a good deal none the less.

FYI all...

I just got back from our local CostCo and they had a BUNCH of Moto Talkabout's in a two-pack, with replaceable faceplates, a dual charger, and a set of NiCds for $49.99. The packaging mentioned them having the standard 14 channels plus 38 codes per channel.

I flaked and didn't get the model number of the set, but I suspect that it may be the same as the set that was talked about up above.

$50 isn't as good of a deal as $40, but it's still pretty good.

Yeah, that's them. The reason they were $39 at Christmas is because there was a $10 rebate. Pretty cool huh?

Ahh! Well then... You/folks will be thrilled to know that the $10 rebate is still on!

That's good on purchases through 12/31/03.
