Ghetto-fab MP3 player mount
Okay, so I didn't actually fab anything. But I did paint it!
Had my Toshiba Gigabeat mounted in front of the 4WD shift lever. Only problem is, I couldn't see the screen. So, I picked up a couple things from Homeless Depot and made a Gigamount.
The whole write-up is here:

anyway, it looks good, can you still get a cd in and out? even though im guessing that is not a concern with the player... mine i mounted in one of those cupholder thingies, and broadcasts FM, but i still enjoy a cleaner sounding cd once in a while

If you have any suggestions on how else to keep it on the mount, I'm all ears. I've been trying to think of alternatives to Velco, too.

ahh.. just saw that my cupholder is not on the dash as yours is either
velcro is good... unless you got a bolt and a wing nut or something... magnets are probably a bad idea too... i spring type set of four small notched pegs could be attached to the bottom of the player, with four holes in the bracket, but thats a lot of fabrication (kinda like the system used on the bands of metal watches... if you look closely there is a small peg that is grabbed by two arms)
