Hey guys. I'm thinking I'm not the only one here that has gas burning a ginormous hole in my pocket . So what I was wondering is what kind of gas mileage everyone was getting. (I looked through past threads and couldn't find one like this to revive, but my apologies if there already is one). The kind of info I'm looking for is your engine size, any modifications from stock and their effect on your mileage and so on so forth. Also, if anyone has any tips or mods to gain some mileage it'd be cool if you wanna share (mind you they still must maintain practicality for wheelin'...) I'll start: 2000 4runner, 3.4L V6, 100% stock w/t Fuzion XTi tires, and I get around 450 km from a tank (70 L), doing about 50% highway and 50% city (I'll count wheelin' as city driving).

 

1997 3.4L 4WD Stock
- 18 mpg city
- 22 mpg hwy

96 3.4L SR5 4wd. 15-17 city & 18-22 freeway. flowmaster exhaust, soon going to do the airaid MIT w/ k&n dropin filter & possibly a 4" deckplate for that mod. michelin tires 265/70/16.

With my mixed (but mostly city) driving I've been getting 240-260ish a tank and I'm a bit of a leadfoot and this is with my LW rack up top but the roofrack won't effect city mileage very much if at all.

 

1986 Toyota 4Runner 2.4L 22re
240500 miles
Added new 2.5 inch pipe from exhaust manifold, new cat, and new flowmaster super 40...didnt do much to gas milage that i noticed, maybe helped a little.
Changed from auto locking hubs to manual locking hubs...did get about 250-300 miles per tank with auto hubs, now i get about 300-350 depending on the way i feel like driving that week.
Rebuilt Head, baked and vatted and shaved head with all new valves and seals, but stock cam..and cleaned whatever else i could along with intake manifold and throttle body...that all helped for a while

I do about the same 50% hwy, 50% city, and get around 20mpg if im lucky

Just my quick 2 cents. The gas prices have forced me to slow down. I now refuse to go over 60 miles per hour. Wow! I get an extra 50 miles out of the tank. I used to average about 290 miles per tank and now get 350.

Seeing how my commute is over 40 miles each way in bad NYC traffic, I am pretty happy with that.

It's just very tough having everyone zoom past me.

 

The gas mileage question has been posed here many times and the differences between peoples mileage seems to create more heat than anything else.
Guy A is getting 16-17 Guy B is getting 22+ etc.
Guy A is getting 280 miles per tank and guy B is getting 400!
Too many variables.......

When gas started climbing a year ago, I removed a bunch of my mods to get back some factory efficiency. It did work but NOTHING has improved my gas mileage like driving slower did this weekend.
I do alot of PHX to Nogales runs and usually drive 82. I can literally watch the needle drop in my 99 3.4- 4x4 runner.
Well holy Cow!! I drove there and back with no AC at 65-68 MPH along with
adding 5 lbs of pressure to my 35 PSI tires. 21-22 MPH highway was the end result and I was impressed. Yes I know it was 110 this weekend but I love the heat.

Funny thing is, that the right lane of the highway is no longer the broke down Joe zone but is now chock full of people driving 65-68 mph !!! Unreal.........it was like a convoy with lines of cars traveling behind 18 wheelers in a calm orderly manner for miles and miles!

well.......there are some minor setbacks that you have to account for like your trips taking longer. I noticed the longer drive time but the rewards are well worth it since I travel alot and theres no relief in sight on the gas price horizon. I'm hooked. Kenny S>

 

Hey yo guys, I got rid of the 4Runner and bought a 2000 Silverado. 5.3L, 8" Superlift, 35" Nitto Mud Grapplers, Weld Wheels...11mpg. Love it to death.

 

I get 15mpg 80% highway/20% city. But that's with an average speed of 15mph, and 25% of travel time is idling in traffic.

All these figures mean absolutely nothing without at least some accompanying data like average speed.

 

I've owned a '99 4Runner Ltd (all stock, 200,000 kms - all fluids recently drained/filled, new fuel filter, new coils) for almost a month now and have been interested in the gas mileage situation...
now here's my contribution

I just got back from a quick weekend trip to a wicked BC hot spring and checked my mileage at each of 3 gas station visits... here's what i found out:

• highway: 12l / 100km - 19.6MPG
• logging road/4x4 section (lots of potholes and uphills): 16l / 100km - 14.7MPG
• highway: 9.5l / 100km - 24.7MPG

average (50% highway/50% logging road): 12.5l / 100km - 18.8MPG

not bad at all as far as i can tell

oh, inside the 4Runner were 4 adults of varying sizes (140-200lbs) and it was packed to the brim with camping gear (the heaviest being 2 coolers full of beer on... on the way there at least)

I got 19.56mpg on my last tank. I have gotten as much as 20.7 with a mostly highway tank.

 

what the hell is wrong with me...i have a 02 sport edition 3.4L, brand new spark plugs, just changed over to mobil 1, new fuel filter, 265/75 BFG A/Ts, just cleaned my air filter and im getting 14-15mpg...id say its 70/30 city/highway. and i def dont floor it ever.

 

hills.


all hills have a -sweet spot- of speed and throttle position. too slow, mpg drops. too hard mpg drops. somewhere around 22-24 mph up a certain hill will be ideal.
the next hill is different.

if you really want to know get a scangauge. they pay for themselves. I paid 140 for mine and saved 140 in gas in 3 months by adjusting my driving habits.

 

93 runner, v6, auto, a.d.d hubs, 235/75/15's avg 14-17mpg depending on its mood that day, with mixed driving(mostly country roads) avg 275 miles per tank(have never got more than 300, and i have owned her for 6+ years)

94 runner, v6, 5spd, add hubs, 31/10.5/15's this truck gets 25mpg on country roads, 19mpg on logging roads, and around 20-21 on highway(70mph+).
I have noticed with the both trucks, that going over 55mph gives way worse mileage. avg 325+ per tank, when camping this weekend, I used 9 gal to travel 225 mi....thats 25 mpg, and this was on counrty roads with large hills.

 

LOL!!! I know someone who is getting 5Mpg with his 2000 Excursion LTD " 8inch lift with 38's" Ohh..and its Supercharged so it runs premium :S
