Gas Milage

Whats everyone getting these days. I'm pleased to say my '01 is getting 22MPG Hgwy and 18MPG around town. I just bought this truck in Jan. My '94 runner never got better than 18 on the highway. I love this truck!!!

You may want to search, there are a few threads about this already, but for me I average 17.65MPG.

That is with mixed city/hwy/WOT miles. (I have a leadfoot)

Why is it, that every time I start to REALLY enjoy my rig, someone w/ a 3rd gen starts asking MPG questions???
If I'm right about my speedo (I think it's off by 10% due to tire size) I'm getting 14.5 in town and 18.5-19 hi-way. Thats up considerably over winter mileage.

Last summer I averaged 17+ mpg. Now (especially after the muffler install) I average about 15 mpg. It's very disappointing.

I just turned in my second 18+mpg tank in a row (mostly around town). I had been getting around 14.5-15 for YEARS but it's been going up since I installed an SMT-5 piggyback computer and the most recent jump (1.5mpg) is from running a bottle of "total fuel system cleaner" through it.

There are a number of companies making fuel system cleaners. From a previous thread here, folks have good things to say about all of them.

Post 99 Runner Mileage

I just got a 03 Runner V8 Limited several weeks ago. Prior to that I had a 99 Limited. It consistently gave me 22-23 mpg(all U.S. figures) on the highway. Of course I had to keep my right foot under control and stay in the 65 MPH range. The 03 hasn't hit this figure yet though haven't had a chance to take a trip on the highway for a period of time to check.

After I changed my tranny and engine fluid to Mobile1 synthetic. I gained about 50 miles per tank. I now average somewhere between 20-22mpg. 80% highway, and I am easy on the gas.

I just got 18.3 MPG on my fillup yesterday morning. That is mixed city/hiway. Not bad considering the new tires were only at 31 PSI when the mechanic took it for a test ride after the alignment. Guy used like 1/8 of a tank - literally drove it like he stole it. Previous tank was 18.7 so I'll see how the MPG hold up. Considering I'm running essentially a 32" tire now I'm happy if I can stay above 18.

When mine was stock, which didn't last long at all, I got 19 city/21 hwy.

Now with all my gas-gulping mods, I'm down to 16. But that's what it was rated originally, so I'm happy. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Well, maybe a '99 Highlander.

With just the engine mods (S/C, headers and exhaust) I was getting 22 Hwy / 18 City. With the lift and bigger meats I am getting around 18 Hwy / 16 City. I try not to leadfoot around too much.

Some of the mods that folks are doing will give performance when you want it but they will also let the engine breath easier and cleaner overall. That translates to better gas mileage.

I think I've got the only 4Runner that doesn't. I'm still getting 10 city and 15-16 hwy

My last two tanks were over 18 miles per gallon. All winter long, I averaged about 16 miles per gallon.
