It appears that there are three different springs for Land Cruisers: 91-92, 93-94, and 95-97 model years. I wonder which has 8 wraps and provides the most lift? And, which side is longer?

The Land Cruisers gas tank is on the US driver's side.

According to ARB/OME, the longer coil always goes on the drivers side regardless of gas tank location yet the overwhelming & popular belief says the opposite...

I've found out that the FJ80 gas tank is on the driver's side, so I'm assuming that the driver's side spring is the slightly longer spring. I've also just heard that 91-92 had the longer 8 wrap springs too, but this is not confirmed yet.

I found out that my 80 Coils that resulted in a nice 3+" of lift were on a 1995 FZJ 80. The Land Cruiser had 114,000 miles and there was no tow hitch.

hmm... i was hoping yours were 97 b/c then there might be SOME sort of pattern. it still seems like its jumping around. the one factor could be steel rear bumper vs. stock. are jayson (loosehead) and jim the only ones so far that are satisfied? i think it'll help when calrockx gets his in, bc his are from a 94 but have 7 coils. the weird thing is, brian had 96 coils, and got more lift than jim with 95 and loosehead with 97. this is all too confusing

heres a table i've been keeping up with, add/edit your information:

Yeah, so is there a final verdict on these yet? I know everybody is getting different measurements with the 7 or 8 coils springs... I've got my 891's with a trimpacker. I've always had a sub box, and now i've got my rear bumper and roof rack and have thought about going to the 892's or just throw on some cornfed spacers... but now that I've found this thread I don't know what to do anymore.... I know I'll have to get a panhard bar/ or kit from Steve, but I've been really happy with my ride from the OME's....

So, I guess we could compare to the above results to see which springs (years) correlate with the 8 wrap springs versus the 7 wrap springs.

I think if you want streetability mostly, stay with what you have. Yours won't flex as well as this setup, because the spring rates are higher, and it's possible that with all the extra weight you're carrying these Land Cruiser springs might not yield you the same lift.

Someone said their coils had 7 loops and were from a cruiser without a tow hitch. Could that be the determining factor?

i dont know much about the fzj80s, but i remember reading that there was a factory option of a tow package which might have had stiffer and/or longer springs. 3rd row seats might have had the longer springs too.

I think it's getting a little pathetic that we can't firgure out the specifics of these springs. Does anyone have a contact at Toyota that would know the details?

Keggo is saying that his rear springs were out of a 1997 and that toyotaparts said they were heavier duty than the rest. I'm wondering if that means thicker diameter coils. I don't want thicker diameter coils, just longer coils. I want the suspension to be as soft as stock, but provide 4" of lift.

There were to types of 97 Land cruisers. One was the 40th aniversary 4 door 4WD Wagon and the second was just the standard 4 Door, 4WD Wagon. Im not sure if this is what your talking about.

Just for the record...

I installed my FJ80 springs (Bought from Bamachem) a while back.

I am getting 7" of rear lift with 2.5" rear spacers... lol :pat:

The ride is incredible though.... Really flexy too. I had to install the longer Land cruiser shocks as my other ones were too short.

I'll get some updated pictures up here soon I hope.

So you're saying you're getting 4.5" of lift out of your springs? What year are they from? Also, did you get two left side springs or the normal setup of a left and right side? Also, what kind of weight are your carrying in the back? Aftermarket bumper?
