Funny noise from front drivers side wheel

99 4WD Taco (160K) - It almost sounds like a CV joint going bad on a FWD car or lug nuts fumbling around in a hubcap. Kind of a clicking, scratching, scraping sound. It only does it for the first 100 yards or so when I first start it up (after it sits for 10 minutes or more) and at high speeds, sometimes I hear more of a high pitched squealing/squeaking sound. I took the wheel off and didn't see anything that looked out of the ordinary. I tried to turn the assembly by hand with the wheel off and it was considerably difficult. With the wheel on, after a good 'Price is Right' heave, the wheel would go maybe 3/4 more of a revolution. When I did the same thing to the other side, the wheel was much easier to turn and it went about another 1 3/4 revolution after I let go. I know THAT part sound like a brake issue (caliper locking up) but would that account for the god-awful sound?

Most wheel bearings make more of a roar noise the faster you drive. when your driving down the road cut the wheel to the right does it go away? Try the opposite side too. This loads and unloads the bearing shifting the weight from one side to another. I'm looking to do my rear bearings they are famous for leaking. I assume your not in 4wheel, right?
