I have a 95 3.0 4Runner and the CEL has been on since I had the headgaskets replaced. To make a long story short I found that the shop that did the headgaskets had the vacum lines for the EGR and reed valve vsv's all mixed up. The code was a 71 witch was caused by a non functioning egr. The truck ran great and had plenty of power (for a 3.0). Now that the EGR is working and the code 71 is gone It has had a major drop in power and there is a horrible part throttle stumble and overall lack of power. If I powerbrake the engine to about 2000-2200RPM the engine will shake and stumble. I had a friend pull the line off the top of the EGR while it was doing this and it stopped shaking and stumbling instantly. When he plugged it back in it started to stumble again. So, obviously I want my power back but I dont want to stare at the damn CEL to get it back. I have went over the diagram under the hood to double check the lines and all is correct. If you guys have any suggestions I would apprieciate them very much. Thanks

 

might have a clogged egr tube.....maybe going to the block or the part that goes back in the intake. i would double check the vacuum routing again....just to be safe.

 

Well, the truck runs great when the EGR is closed. So dont think it is that.
Last night I was pulling out a parking lot and it wouldnt even get up to 30mph without flooring it So I pulled over and pulled the line off the EGR and it runs perfect. Im thinking maybe the vsv is not telling the EGR to close or the tps is not working correctly.

 

So are you saying you unhooked the egr when it was warm then floored it? Have you driven it without the EGR plugged up? If you have a Cali emissions yota like mine...you should have an EGR temp sensor that bolts into the side of it. Do you have any codes as of now?

 

I have the egr vacum line unhooked right now so the valve wont open. I dont have a code as of now but im sure i will get a 71 back after a little more driving since the temp sensor will remain cold.

The truck runs excellent without it plugged in, but I get a code 71. With it plugged in it has no codes but runs horrible. I went over the vacum lines once more just to be sure and they are correct with the diagram under the hood.

If the tps is bad could it stop the egr vsv from opperating correctly?

 

hmmmm.....doesn't sound like it to me but I'm not familiar with the whole system. I'm sure there is someone knowledgeable enough on this forum for this one! Good luck...Although I know there is a vsv for the EGR system so it could be possible for the vsv to be screwy.

 

its been a while snce you were all talkin about it i'm kinday lookin fo an update i'm having the same cel 71 and i replaced a bad vsv and blew out the vacume lines there is no filter in the mudular cuz it was filled with dirt is the light coming on cuz of the remaining dirt that may be in the system i'm lost for thought and hope someone can help?????
