Full Time Locker vs. LSD
Can anyone give me an idea of what would be a better choice??? A full time rear locker or a Limited slip unit. Seeing as I have a 98 Runner there are not to many options. Please give me some pros an cons of each. I can't make up my mind. HHHHHEEEELLLLLPPPP!!

as far as i know a full locker is for people who really offroad a lot. if you go a lot and really need the extra traction, get the ful locker. a posi or limited slip would be a much better improvement from an open diff.... so if you dont offroad a lot, might as well get a LSD. but if you do a lot of offroading or stuff where you will be getting one wheel in the air, get a full locker.
somebody else will get you a better opinion too, just wait
hope i helped at least a little.....

Rowan's description was actually right on target.
Limited slip is great, especially for street use, but there are times off road when you don't want to wait around for one wheel to spin to make the other start to drive.
LS is great for on road and light off roading.
Locked is better for general off road use.

IIRC, unless something has changed, you should be able to bet any traction aiding device for your rear that any other Toy owner with a V-6 axle can get.
This means:
LSDs like TRD, Auburn, True-Trac
Auto lockers like Detroits, EZ-lockers, Lock-rights
Manual lockers like ARB, E-lockers
If you are asking, then you should look at an LSD of some sort to start out. Then you will run it for a while and want a real locker.
I ran a True-Trac for a couple of years and it was transparent on road and helpful off-road. Now I have dual ARB's, transparent on-road and awesome off-road.
What do you want to use your rig for? Weekly wheeling, monthly wheeling, occassional trips to camping spots or trail heads? Are you the only one who drives it, do you see much snow or ice?
