front and rear bumpers...

so I went on a little internet search for front and rear bumpers and I only found three places that make them for 96 4runners, all-pro offroad (look under the 94-00 tacoma tab and they only have front tube bumpers), kenmtnac.com (they have both-the rear multi carrier is awesome but the fronts are not all that impressive-imo), and irbisofroad.com (their bumpers are very cool but on the expensive side). Does anyone know of any others that I'm missing? none from arb, warn, or marlin but armorology does make some custom ones that look great but are very expensive.

thnx,
t

most pre-fab'd front bumpers on the market are for 2nd gen, tons of them, i bought one for cheap and made some brackets to fit on my 99. there are many shops in SD area do custom pre-runner style bumpers for virtually any vehicle, just ask around.

as for the rear bumper, that's a whole different story. it needs to be individually fitted, period. Sonoran Steel makes one for 3rd gen but you have to drive yours to AZ.

" 1996-2002 Toyota Rear Bumper $1200.00 BARE METAL, NOT PAINTED. You MUST drive your actual truck to our shop in Tempe, Arizona as well for final assembly. These bumpers CAN NOT be shipped. You can not buy the bumper if you do not bring your actual vehicle in."

http://www.sonoransteel.com/store_custom_bumpers.html

or you can join about 8 or 9 others on the waiting list of BruceTS' bumper. last time i asked him, the time is 6 months minimum.

I really like the Shrockworks, of Houston, TX front bumper.

I am thinking about getting one of their fronts when I get back. I can drive down and my best friend lives down there and can help me put it on.

I went with the TJM-15 from SS for my 00 4runner and I had a friend weld me up a rear bumper for $600 painted. Not as pretty as STeve's @ SS but cheaper than driving to AZ from ME. It still needs some work. I did't have the imperfections filled which I will next time it needs to be painted. I loved the Shrockworks but I save $400 or more by sticking with the TJM. I wanted to weld a receiver inside it so I could use my warn 9.5 on back and front. It is in a cradle. I wasn't sure the Shrockworks would allow that.

How does one get in touch with BruceTS? Also, how much is he charging for his 3rd gen rear bumpers?

I am surprised that it is so hard to find a decent aftermarket rear bumper for 3rd gens, given how many of these rigs are out there. It is amazing to me how many rigs I see that are lifted, but still have the lame stock bumper/receiver hitch combo hanging so low off the back that totally screws up the departure angle...

Schaefer was just telling me the other day that TJM is out of the North American market. One would have to find leftover stock (unlikely) or used/ebay/CL.

The armorology rear bumper is awesome but expensive as you said. The other downside is that they need your rig for a minimum of two weeks.

That's the rear I want for my 2nd Gen pickup. Thing is, I don't live anywhere near CO. But, they do have plenty of pics from plenty of angles on their site so I'm going to see what sort of prices local fab shops can give me on it.

That bumper is rad. I'm wanting to chop a little of the underside of my bed to fit it up nice and high.

I came from the southeastern end of kansas, and I found a way to bring my rig up to Colorado springs to get an armorology rear bumper. It was about 16 hours worth of driving, and worth every bit of effort. What I am saying is where there is a will, there is a way!

These are the only ones I got. The camera wasn't there the whole time. Also, it was between midnight and 3 in the morning when most of this was done. For the mounting I bolted the bumper mounts to the old hitch mounts. And for the sides I haven't decided quite how I want to brace them just yet. The whole thing is built out of 3/16" plate. And I will say that I appreciate having a friend with access to a very well supplied weld/fab shop.
