After doing some searches and realizing that this may be a problem that more than just a few of us are having, I'd like to know if anyone has found the reason and/or a permanent cure for this chirping noise? I'm not sure but I'm thinking it may be the stem of the shock making contact with the inside of the hole where it goes through the spring mount. The only thing that I can do which stops it is lube up the bushing and stem with grease however that only lasts for a few weeks and then it starts up again. Here's a picture of the area:

 

I have had the same issue. I had my shocks replaced and then it went away but I had problems with them so I had them changed under warranty and the chirp came back. Now its turning into a rattle so I am getting concerned. If you figure it out let me know.

 

Like I mentioned in the other thread, you really just need to make sure that the top nut is on there all the way down and tight on the bushings before installation. That was the only thing that I did to make it go away permentely.

 

Yeah I did that but now that you mentioned it, I'm wondering if maybe the nut is at the end of the threads on the stud preventing me from getting it any tighter? As soon as it stops raining I'm going to check it out.

 

I'd think this would be more of a sway bar/control arm bushing issue? They just probably need to be re-lubed.

 

Actually "p nut" it has nothing to do with the sway bars in this specific case though, but thanks for the input anyway. So I went out and backed the nut off again and lo and behold it was bottomed out on the end of the threads so maybe the bushings were NOT tight enough! So I threw in a bunch of washers to get some more adjustment and we'll see how that goes. The bushings are definitely compressed more, so here's my next question; How compressed should they be??? Sweet, I've installed aftermarket spacers, and have since had a really bad "chirp'n" similiar to a u-joiint going out. I've replaced the u's and still have the chirp/squeek. I'm going to check this out. Good post, good thread, now wish me luck on ending this mystery squeek I've been dealing with for over 2 years.

mine did the same thing untill i tightened up that nut. it also felt like it ran out of threads, but has made no noise since.

 

I'm still wondering how tight is tight enough for that nut and bushing, anyone have any advice? I'll be heading out in the morning on about a 50 mile trip up an old logging road to a lake that's supposed to be great for trout so I'll be able to give the suspension a fairly good work out on the way. We'll see how it goes.

Well I covered about 80 miles today, half of which are decommisioned logging roads and not so much as a squeak! I'll report back after a few weeks to give an update.

 

Well it's been 10 days and 2 trips later and still NO squeak or chirping noise at all! I've noticed that the ride is somewhat more controlled and less "bouncy" (for lack of a better word) which must have been caused by the play in the looser bushings but now that they're tight, much of that is gone! Woo Hoo! Now to concentrate on building up some sliders.
