Front Differential fill & drain plugs

Hey, as I am draining my rear Diff I figure I'll get the front one set up to go. Only I can not, for the life of me, find the drain plug & fill plug! :pat: What am I missing? I took of the rear part of the skid plate cause that is the one that protects the diff.

Look on the front for two 10mm hex bolts. At least that is how my 99 is.

That's what I was afraid of. I don't have that tool. Well, off to Sears and I'll attack the diff another day.

By the way, how do you know when the diff, front or rear, if full?

It will start to come out of the fill plug hole. Plus you can also check your owner's manual to see how much oil you should be putting in.

Yeah, with the rear diff I just couldn't pump any more into it. I was using the hand pump from Griots. If my measurments were correct then I was a little short of the quanity I needed, but hey, no more would go in.

With the Transfer case, I let the oil pour into old empty oil bottles so I had the exact amount that came out. But when I was done filling that amount into it, it felt like I could put more into the trans case. I didn't though.

It is a little disconcerning cause there is no dipstick to show me that I screwed up or put the right amount in.

I would fill up to the drain hole like others have mentioned then consider it full and place back your fill plug. easy enough.
