found my truck...finally....maybe..

91 pickup, 4cyl, 5 speed, 4x4. going to go look at it this evening. truck is a one owner, minor rust and the guy said it had something like factory undercariage protection/armour..? 150K asking price $2400. cold ac. what are things i need to look for? was there a factory option of 29in or 31 in tires the tranny is geared for? i really dont know much about yota's other than i know i want one. i know the beds rust off and to check for bad rust there. how about engine? did they offer 2 different 4 cyls. for 91? 2.4 and 2.2? which engine is better? lot of questions i know, but i am about to purchase and need advice. thanks for any info provided.
immediate plans call for tires, winch, and possibly rear locker.

there wuz only 1 4cyl in 91 it's a 2.4. the beds don't rust to bad on the 2nd gen (89-95) it was the older ones that russted bad. whats the mi? if it's sr5 i think it would have come with 31s. mine came with about 28s but i put 31s on and it's fine no need to regear. i love my 90 4x4 5spd 22RE (4cyl) i keep thinking about getting a newer truck but i don't think i could part with my truck cuz it's awesome. mine had about 178k when i got it now it has 201k all i had to do to it was a new tranny (i knew that when i got it) other than that it runs great.
welcome to yotatech

my truck is in the 3rd gen section??? i'll have to change that. i have a 2nd gen don't know y it's in wit the 3rd gens??? about the factory undercariage protection. do you mean skid plates? if so yes it has some skid plates but u can't just go sliding over rocks. if you mean undercoating. idk if it's from toyota but my truck is undercoated and has VERY little rust under there.

Yeah, those skid plates are made out of a beefy plastic, you don't have to worry about rocks or...... alright, they're only really splash guards....

1st gen pick-ups were 79-83
2nd gen pick-ups were 84-89
3rd gen pick-ups were 90-95

1st gen 4runners started in 84 and went until 89. And so on...

Because 90-95 4runners were the 2nd body style of 4runners, Pickups from 89-95 were the 3rd body style

31s didn't come with the SR5 package...it was a seperate option. The factory skidplates should all be there (IFS, T-case, gas tank) as I think all 4x4s had em, dunno about undercoating mine doesn't have it but alot of 4runners do you can search on here for axle codes and print off what you find and compare it with the truck's when you go look at it to find out what gears it has, rust on these trucks isn't as bad as the older ones except maybe the ones from midwest and Northeast

pickups got a new body style in '89 while the 4runner got its change in '90.

and the truck generations you see thrown around are 4x4s, there were a few 2wd generations before '79.
