I got a 50 series with a turndown pipe. Its got a good sound. I think I would do a straight pipe to the back though. Having two 3" tailpipes sounds much too large for the 3.4L...as in not enough backpressure. I wouldn't do that.

On my newly aquierd 87 4Runner,it has 2" piped all the way back to a Flomaster 40 series,It sounds beefy!,My 88' 4runner is stock with the pipe rusted off after the cat. It sounds mean but it is more import like and gruffy ,where the flomaster is thick and smooth sounding.

I am also looking as a 50 series flowmaster. I have the same problem with them only selling flowmaster...

I have heard a few sound clips and i think the 50 is the best for me as it is nice and deep but not a ricer sound. Plus i don't want something that will overpower my sound system!

I vote for the 50 Flowmaster....thats what I have and it sounds great (not ricey). Stock pipes and a nice tip is what I'm running with it.

sorry for the double post but my friend said if i didn't have them take off my cat. converter the flowmasters really wouldn't be loud at all or even noticable. i was wondering if this was true, because my dad i'm pretty sure will not let me get it taken off.

You can also check out the sound clip at the bottom. Duals will require you to remove your spare tire also.
This muffler sounds incredible. I still can't get enough of it after 5+ years on my own 4Runner.

Sloan,

Are you Able to run around town with the rear window down? I had a magna flow installed I got home drove around town and had to call back to get the OE reinstalled due to the noise, like a ricer. I suspect I may just try the Flowmaster 50 Series like BruceTS.

yea i usually leave mine down. its not a rice sound, but its still not as deep as i wanted. it sounds much better after a few days of riding around now then it did at first.

but yea if they would have had the 50 series i would have gone with that.
i should post some pictures and maybe a sound clip soon

Did you notice any loss in lower end torque driving around town? I would think duals would do that to a engine like ours because the extra flow seems like too little back pressure.
