Flex or lack there of

i have been running my lift for like 6 months now, 2.5" cornfeds, downey rear coils and bilsteins. I also have the rancho limiting straps that came with the downeys. Are you guys sure that the straps dont prevent flex i mean mine seem to get real tight evn after a little flex. It seemed as though there was more before the lift, is anyone else have this problem. maybe the straps are bad and are too short, i havent taken them off to check since the went onin december. I jut really noticed it after my last wheeling trip. in the pic the straps are tight. wheel is almost off the ground

Vato Loco- how about replying with some insight on his problem and PM him about his grill guard.

Runnerboy97- Honestly that amount of flex looks about right, although the pics never do much justice to the real situation though. I would say take some time and measure to be sure.

Flex? this is what I got for flex. I'm not running any limiting straps though. that may be your problem. since they are tight in the picture you posted (I'm assuming here) then I would say that they are "limiting" you, no pun intended. if you want to see any other pics of mine let me know. you may not be able to get more flex because if you remove the straps the coils could drop out at full flex since you are using spacers. have you thought about buying some OME's for the rear lift? they are only about $120 for the set. that is all I did. I think they cost as much as the spacers did so I opted for longer springs and have no drop out issues at full flex.

oh yea, have you also looked to see if maybe your driveshaft is contacting your gas tank? I thought I heard somewhere that when flexing that could happen. I am just guessing and don't know about this so no attacks please.

I dont have spacers in the rear. i have the downey 3.5" coils, like 2.5" of lift.

guess I misread because you said you have "2.5" cornfeds, downey rear coils and bilsteins."

Sorry for the confusion. I hope my other info helped. I still think those limiting straps are the culprit.

Your straps may be to short. Have you ever checked your flex on anything bigger than that little pebble? If that's all you have in the rear either the straps or the shocks are too short. Lots of guys can get the top of the rear at or below the bottom of the rear fender.

yea you could try running the drivers wheel up on that stump and turning the wheels to the right instead of to the left, that may flex you more.

3 easy steps to more flex

1) get longer shocks, ones designed for Land Cruiser FJ80's

2) remove rear sway bar

3) get OME springs

After seeing this, my sway bar is coming off tomorrow! I have longer shocks, comparable to the length of the shocks you're talking about.

Rancho straps + Bilstein shocks = stock flex

18" straps + OME Prado shocks = max flex without drivshaft contact

Leave the rear sway bar, it holds nothing back. FJ-80 shocks are too long compressed, OME and Downey springs will yeild the exact same results in reguards to flex.

Then again what do I know, I only have a 252 to 1 crawl ratio and 2 selectable lockers.

All this guy needs to do is order 18" straps and OME Heavy Duty Prado shocks. They will work really well with the Downey springs.

Wow. You have a lot of money to spend on your truck so you know everything.

To keep the coils from coming out, you can always wire them in the way I did

If you leave your sway bar on it will turn into a pretzel and rip itself from its mount.

But what do I know. I have a bunch of parts in my garage, and only one selectable locker.

It was "Corkey's Playground" which Joe Micciche gets full credit for.
