If this comes across as a newbie question, I am sorry, however, on a 2000 4runner 4x4 would I gain any lift by using FJ front springs instead of the tundra TRD coils? Anyone tried this? Would it be worth it?

 

I doubt the FJ coils will be muc heavier duty. Not too much weight difference between the two.

 

Arent the FJ Cruiser struts like the new Taco and 4th gen 4Runner struts? And arent they a different spring design, and dimension?

 

FJ springs are completely different. You'll want to either use 99 4Runner springs for a very mild lift, or go for the "TRD Lift" like something from Sonoran Steel.

I don't see why the spring itself won't fit but it won't give you any lift. I am running Tundra TRD coils on my 05 Tacoma struts and it only gave me a .5" of lift. This is all due to the change they made to the strut itself, its length, where the coil mounts, etc.

So you are telling me that I can run coils that we all know work just fine on the 3rd gen 4runner/Tacoma strut (Tundra) on my strut (05 Tacoma) but he can't run coils from my strut on his strut? Even the struts will bolt in, it has been done, it isn't advisable as it is way too long and gives way too much lift. I would be willing to bet that the coils would swap right over to his strut, there are people running OME Prado (4th gen 4runner/Tacoma lift springs) on 3rd gen 4runners.

 

think about the word custom...i can put ford f350 coils on my truck...doen't mean they belong

 

Nobody said anything about "custom" as a matter of fact it doesn't require anything custom. But like i said in my first post, there probably isn't a point to it when there is a proven cost effective method out there.
