Hey all, just got a 2000 4runner limited with just under 200k. Got it cheap (I think) for $800, it's got some minor body damage but that's not a concern for me. It's got a check engine light and the code said it was missing on #2, the light flashes and stays solid and then goes out comes on flashes so on and so forth, I've checked compression and replaced the spark plugs in it and that didn't help. Took it to a shop with a better scan tool and they said they couldn't get it to hook up and my ECM might be shot? It gets horrible mileage as well, I drive 20 miles in it round trip mon-Friday and it used almost 3/4 of a tank. I'd really like to get this fixed cause my wife and I came on some hard times and had to sell our jeep, and we love to off-road! So that's why I bought this. To daily drive so my diesel truck can take a break and so the wife and I can explore the back roads of Arkansas!! Any help is appreciated.

Post up what you find out about the obd no read deal

I have the same problem with my swap motor, from a 2000 runner.

I suspect an Ecu problem but the only way to check it is to swap it with a known good one.
