Factory locker operation?

Factory locker operation?
Just purchased a 99 SR5 4runner with a V6, 5 speed and factory installed rear locker. I really love the vehicle but am unable (I think) to get the rear differential locked. I put the vehicle in 4 low then press the "RR DIFF LOCK" button on the dash, the ABS light comes on and the differential lock light starts to flash but never stops flashing. Am I missing something? Maybe I need to drive forward a bit? I hesitate to drive until the differential is locked. Any insight or advice would be appreciated.

I just went out and checked, my rear diff light just flashes constantly, no matter what I do. I didn't know it had to be in 4wd to use it, so I haven't even tried to do it before correctly. But, is there something I can check to see why it doesn't work? I am already taking the truck in to Toyota for the gas gauge TSB, so I'll just have them look at that while its there. My 4wd engauges correctly and works, but my diff just flashes??
any ideas?

Before you go running to the dealer, check it again. You have to be in 4WD-LOW for the locker to engage. That safety can be disabled with a little wiring if you want (instructions are on my page).

OK, nevermind, works perfectly.
So I'm still learning about my newly aquired Runner!
I am curious though, is it safe to wire out the diff lock to work in 2wd mode and use it as such? Just sounds like there's some fun to be had in 2wd + TRD SC + rain
I know, I know, dangerous...but surely sounds like fun doesn't it?
