Factory Alarm System

Factory Alarm System
Hey all,
I have a 97 4Runner with a factory "Securikey+" system on it. I think the gulf state toyota dealers used these?
Anyway, it is the one with the alarm transmitter built into the key. My question is, can I buy a replacement transmitter to put on my key ring and then program it to my system?
Anybody have any ideas on this one?
Thanks!

hmm, well I don't know about the key, but I recently programed some new 4button transmitters, the one with the lock, unlock, rear window, and panic button on it... Im sure most of you know what they look like. Anyways, the loop broke off of one, and so it couldnt be attached to a keychain, so I decided to get more. My dealer wanted $125.00 EACH for them. I snagged two off of ebay for $25 bucks. I went to get them programed and how they do it is they set the receiver to program, which wipes everything, and you program each pad you want to it. The person said you can have as many as you want, you just have to get them programmed in. Im sure someone can explain it better.
so, to answer your question, yes, you can buy replacement transmitters, and your dealer will program them for you. I remember the price they charged me wasnt bad either. Hope this helps. Peace.

Thanks for the information. Anyone have a place to point me to order a compatible replacement transmitter for this system? will any "generic" work?
I'd like new transmitters and to ditch the "transmitter-on-the-key" things since they are showing major signs of wear!
Thanks again!

David,
Did you have the same "transmitter on the key" thing? If so, can you send me some details of the replacement transmitter you now have that works with this system?
Brand or model or part # or somewhere to start??
Thanks and happy holidays.

Hey, the transmitter that i now have looks identical to the one that is on the key, but it is not attached to the key. Does that make sense? They gave it to me at my Toyota Dealership. Hope that helps you.

I thought the transmitter is built INTO the key, like some kind of chip that's not actually transmitting, but is being detected. I have a '99 Limited and I just replaced the keyless entry transmitter(bought on ebay) and programmed it myself. I was wondering if there is a way to tell if I also have the alarm system or if I just have keyless entry? Oh yeah, I also saw on ebay some uncut transmitter keys that look just like mine and the guy says that you can program them similar to programming the keyless remote,it was really easy. Anyone else seen these? Are they really programable?
