fact or fiction
After discussing exausts on this forum quite a bit i had been pretty stuck on getting a borla exaust system.. however i was told last week that the best exaust for 4runners these days is Gibson? And that Gibson has been developing exaust systems for TRD and what not. Is this true? I am pretty sure Gibson is significantly cheaper... i guess i dunno if that translates into less quality or not. But what's the good word?

i agree with philly. many of us, including myself, have gone with the cheaper magnaflow/dynomax exhaust. i love my dynomax, it sounds deep and loud enough to tell you have done something..but not toooo loud

By the way... I believe that Borla actually makes all of the TRD exhaust systems.

i'd love to just go ahead and buy a borla.. and at some point that may be the case.. but i'm payin for other things at the moment.. and i haven't found a single place that sells it for less than $500... and i don't really wanna settle for the less expensive approach.. I was hoping this Gibson nonsense would be true.. seeing how much cheaper they go for.. but apparently that is not the case.. thanks for the replies

Get the Borla.
I have a '91 4 runner v6 and I put the Borla on in '94 at 45k miles. Now 9 years later at 158k everything is still the same.
No holes, no leaks, and still sounds cool.
I think the factory cat will rust out first.

You are over paying for Borla, a nice Magnaflow stainless steel or Dynomax or a number of other mufflers can be had for 1/5 the cost. Do yourself a favor
You will get the same tone, maybe even better. Check out the exhaust page at Corey's.

I've been to Corey's site many ah times.. but it doesn't really help me out much.. the majority of them sound good. The thing about just getting the high performance muffler is.. 1) I am doing the whole sha-bang.... new converter, cat to back, headers.. goin all out when i do it.. so i don't just want a muffler- i want the whole deal. Plus, the borla isn't particularly hard to install.. uses all the factory hooks.. me and a variety of my buddies like ta put everything in ourselves.. and if i just go w/ the muffler.. that means i gotta weld right? I have my own shop.. but it doesn't consist of welding equipment.. i dunno.. the price really isn't a problem in the long run.. i'll have no issue forkin up the extra change when the time comes.. just can't fork it up @ the moment. Just got back from an 8 day vacation.. really emptied the pockets temporarily.. haha. thanks again everybody...
