Extended warranty?

mine was Toyota Certified Used Car which means they throw in 100k extended warranty for free. I would get the warranty as long as you're not going to mess with the suspension and do many mods on ur truck.

Well, I bit the bullet and got the extended warranty. $870.00 for 7/100 Platinum Toyota Exended Care coverage was a hell of a deal...if anyone got it lower I would like to know.
I debated whether to get it, and after reading some pros and cons on this and other boards, I decided to do it. My last 4runner would have used up this coverage for a few small things that crapped out after the 3/36 bumper to bumper (antenna motor, ac, etc.) so I figured I would cover myself this time just in case.
My $ .02

Eventhough it is a Toyota, things can and do go wrong with it. I typically ended up using the Warranty to have things that the Dealer messed up fixed. In fact as I approached the 100k mark, Toyota asked my Dealership if I was using the Runner as a work truck because of all of the claims against it. I didn't know this until later but the Dealer would mess things up when working on my truck and then charge Extra Care to fix it to defray their costs. Besides those Extra things (now I see why Toyota changed the name from Extra Care to Extended Care
) for which the Dealer charged them, I legitimately had a leak in the A/C fixed, a leaky water pump replaced, a faulty Steering pump and pulley replaced, and work done on the injectors, O2 senors replaced, and some other things that I can't remember. I think that the steering pump itself covered the cost of the Extra Care warranty and everything else was paid for by the Warranty and not out of my pocket....so I felt that it was worth it. When I buy another Toyota, I'll buy a Toyota extended warranty and smile for the next 7 years and 100k miles.
You did the right thing.

After having my Taco for 9 monthes I'm real happy I got the extended platinium. If the first 15,000 miles are any indicator I wish I could have got a 200,000 mile waranty. This is my first toyota and probably my last. I should have bought another Ranger. I personally think you did the right thing. My $0.02

If you want an intelligent $0.02 the answer is this... insurance more often than not does not pay for itself. It is not financially smart.
When you buy insurance, you are basically buying peace of mind, and paying a hefty premium at that. Unless you somehow know that you are more prone to mechanical breakdown than the average, then by all means get the insurance, just don't let the insurance company know
But purely hypothetically speaking, the chances are against you of even breaking even on the cost of the warranty. Most auto repairs, even in the catastrophic category are well within the cash reserve of a properly managed household, hence why most financial advisors would sway you from purchasing extended auto warranties.
(The fine print probably also advises against regular maintenence anywhere but the dealer, so anything DIY potentially could be a deal breaker in a sense)
