Exhausts? which to buy?

Ive been searching around for a new exhaust system since mine is rusting off and im not having much luck. im looking for something complete and will bolt right up. not looking to piece something together and modify to fit. hopefully you guys can help. i wouldnt mind replacing from the headers back but i think all i really need to replace is from the cat back. i dont want anything loud. just something above oem with a nice little rumble would be nice.

ive got a 00 4runner v6 ltd cali spec

I've seen turbo mufflers recommended a number of times on YT as something "a little more but not too loud."

lots of threads about either Magnaflow or Flowmaster mufflers with stock piping sounding good. that's what i would do and dress it up with a nice tip on the end. just do from the cat on back, otherwise you'll mess with the cats and O2 sensors and it will be a headache, and if you have emissions testing or whatever that will probably get you in hot water. DO NOT waste your money on a TRD cat back, waste of money IMO. i think Jardine and Borla make cat back kits too but i have no info on these kits.

Dynomax makes a muffler called a "super turbo".
http://www.dynomax.com/products/mufflers.html

I had one on my 90 4Runner V6. I had a local shop install the muffler and a larger pipe from the cat back. It had a nice tone at idle & was quiet for highway driving. The performance was much better than stock too.

I don't know how they work on the 3.4V6, but it made the 3.0V6 run much better.

Good luck!

borla doesnt make a cat back for a 4runner, jardine makes motorcycle exhausts. im really suprised that nobody makes an exhuast for a 4runner. sounds like an untapped niche to me. i hope a vender sees my thread.

Borla makes the TRD exhaust, and the Jardine exhuast people refer to is sometimes seen as the Doug Thorley system.

JBA makes a 304 stainless catback too that sounds really good, but there are some funky installation issues which seem to be consistent. I made a fairly detailed post about mine in a thread asking specifically about the JBA system.

It really depends on what Flowmaster model you have. Some are louder than others and there's a few to choose from.
I'm still liking my 50 Series Delta...it's only semi-loud when I want it to be.

i agree with Rocket. I've got the 40 Delta Flow (which is really loud, but it is drowned out by my bass in my Runner. My neighbor has the 50 like Rocket and has a nice rumble & is considerably quieter than mine. But I love Flowmaster for their performance and for making the Runner sound like a baby V8.

i looked on borla's website and they dont list anything for a 00 4Runner. The Doug Thorley system isnt SS. I'll look more into this JBA catback. what did it cost you? as of right now it looks like my only option is TRD and the cheapest i found was $600.17 i dont know if my wallet can handle that

I have been looking at mufflers and exhaust systems for my truck and settled on the Edelbrock muffler. THe rest of the pipe i will have mandrel bent at a local shop that has mandrel bending. Seems the cheapest way to go.

If you want cheap, direct fit, and quiet I'd go with the walker quiet flow. I got one for mine for $140 w/ new gaskets. It's a bolt on assembly from the cat to the tailpipe. It's just slightly louder than stock at low RPM and I can't even hear it on the highway.

This is the post I made about my installation issues. I got my JBA system from ajusa.com for $300 shipped.

I went with the TRD on my 97. The first one rusted and toyo gave me another free!
I do like the throaty sound. not too loud and not to soft!
