Exhaust leak.....

So I have been having this problem which I think is an exhuast leak. The engine sounds like it runs really rough when I apply the throttle. The only problem is that when I have the hood up, and I am poking around- I can't hear or see anything wrong. Only when vehicle is running and I hit the throttle does is sound horribly rough (ticking and fluttering). I went and bought exhaust manifold gaskets and realized that being made of aluminum (several layers) how likely is it possible that's where the leak is coming from? I went in and cranked the bolts tight but still sounds bad. What is the best way to trouble shoot where the noise is- and is there anybody out there that had the same problem with the V-6 3.0? Any suggestions and comments welcome....

I had (and still have) a leak somewhere too. The bolts from my intermediate pipe to the cat rusted out, so I had them replaced with a new gasket - thought that was the issue. WRONG! I still have the same sound you are reffering to, except mine isn't as obnoxious as you are describing, just kinda raspy up toward the engine somewhere. Let me know what you find out...
