Even More E-Locker Questions...

Hello all,
An E-Locker has been on my wish list for quite some time now and I may have finally found one close to home. I have a 1996 V6 regular cab with a manual trans so through the link below I have determined that I have a 4.10 ratio. I have located a 1998 V6 auto trans TRD Tacoma with no numbers after the "A/TM" on the door jam sticker but instead there is a "?"...how fitting I thought. I am getting a lot of differing opinions on what the gear ratio would be in the 1998 parts truck after tirelessly searching online. I came across the information in the link below but it still doesn't help me. I am dieing to find out what the ratio is, please yield some insight!

Also, if it ends up being the desired 4.10 ratio what happens if it has ABS? Is this another headache to contend with since I do not have ABS?

You could count the rotations of the wheel vs. the driveshaft, or pull the 3rd and count the teeth on the ring and pinion. Other than those ways, I cant think of any more definite solutions.

Not sure on your ABS question

So after typing the VIN of the parts truck into my TOYOTA EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog) I have discovered that the axle code is VZN170L-CRPDKAB. According to the chart in the link below it is either a 3.909 or a 4.100 if equipped "with 10.5R 15 Tire, 7JJ Wheel, or P265/70R 16 tire". Since the truck is supposedly a TRD (haven't seen it yet) I am assuming bigger tire (TRD=31" OR 265 tire)=lower gear. The higher geared 3.909 was reserved for the smaller 225 tire Tacomas. The 2nd to last post from the bottom (posted by FlatlandTRD) on the 2nd link below supports by assumptions!

I am pumped!

So I went and inspected the 1998 donor truck today...crunched up rollover.

The frame is beautiful on it. Nice enough that I thought that it might have been replaced but I didn't think Toyota was replacing frames older than 2001. If anyone has an extended cab out of warrantee and is looking for a frame (I believe it not to be bent) and 3.4 motor and auto trans for that matter there is one in Iowa.

I ended up picking up a 4.10 E-Locker, RR Diff Lock switch, control module (not sure if I need the module yet) and a Genuine Toyota CV shaft for $450. He still has one more Genuine Toyota CV shaft but I passed on it simply because one boot was ripped.

I was wondering what everyone else thinks about my purchase ie good deal? I always have a small amount of buyers remorse after buying stuff I don't need!! hahaha

Should I have picked up that 2nd CV shaft for the simple fact it was a Genuine Toyota?

Also, I got home tonight and took off my lower dash panel to pop off plate where RR Diff Lock switch would be. To my surprise I found a 3 hole female connector taped off to another set of wires directly behind the opening. The wire colors are green w/red strpe, white w/light blue and white w/ black stripe. Am I semi pre-wired? Does anyone know what the wires are off hand? I also took off the lower kick panel to look for control module but found nothing.

Sounds like a great deal. If you change your mind on the diff itself, let me know.
