okay I am no mechanic and I can only go with what I read from all the comments already posted but I will tell you that other posters on these forums have had signficant issues with the remote starts and how they get wired up and so on. I drive a manny tranny so a remote start will never be an option for me anyways-but from what I read they are nothing but trouble.

I will try to find you the thread most significantly related to your trouble-but feel free to scan the most recent pages of T4R.org or Yota Tech or IH8MUD
and I can almost guarantee you will locate the thread as well.

I hope I am wrong but I have to think it is somehow related. Thank goodness you are not just throwing parts at it.

okay my money is still on the remote starter and I have scanned IH8MUD and see nothing there to benefit you.

Rough idle makes me think of the AFM-I don't know what it is-but I have read about it. something to do with fuel flow.

I thought AFM was Air Flow Meter aka Mass Air Flow. This is n't related to the remote start since I had the rough idle before the installation. With the gauge flucuating with the way it is running I am wondering if i am ahving reduced voltage to the sending unti and pump. Someone mentioned a failing fuel pump may cause this. Would a failing fuel pump affect the gauge too? I wouldn't think so.

I apologize- I have scanned through the threads and the only relevant postings I see were more related to electrical gremlins and none seemed to be related to actual running of the motor itself.

Just tryin to be helpful. Sorry for pretending I thought I knew something.....

and no I believe the AFM is something to do with fuel metering, the MAF is the sensor at the "throat" of the air intake but if I knew what I was talking about (mechanically speaking) I would be dangerous.

Have you checked the general condition of the electrical system? Battery static voltage, Battery cable condition, charging system voltage. Try checking the charging system voltage with everything you can think of turned on (blower, headlights, wipers, etc.)
Sounds like you may have a charging system problem. Could explain the smell you are getting too.

already tried that. I tried putting a heavy electrical load and there was no difference.

I'd advise taking it to someone that can diagnose the problem. The flashing CEL light on basically means that your engine is operating in a condition that will cause catalyst damage. Basically the equivalent to taking a blow torch to the inside of your converter. After you get off the highway take a look at your converter. Most likely it will be glowing red hot!

i wonder if it is just a clogged converter but then again that wouldnt explain the gauge

Last night after bar hopping the light came on i was on a desolate highway so I pulled over and looked underneath and there was no glowing. I pulled the plate under the back seat for the fuel pump connections and looked at the wiring to the drivers side kick panel and it looks ok.

Hopefully this is leading somewhere. I now have a P0110 IAT Malfunction.
