electrical issues

im havin an issue with my brake light\turn signals, here it is:

when i apply the brakes, the right turn signal comes on solid

when i use the right signal, it works fine until i press the brakes and then it goes solid again

when i use the left signal, both come signals on like hazards, until i brake, then the right signal goes solid and the left keeps flashing

any ideas as to why this is happening would be awesome, ive posted on a few other forums and no one has really been able to help

thanks

Check your ground wires, if that doesn't solve your problem, look for a cut or a pinch in the wiring harness leading back to the bed, the wires could be shorted together. Do you have the stock or aftermarket trailer wiring harness kit? If so disconnect it and see if the problem goes away.

The stock trailer wiring kit uses an control module, if that shorted it could give you problems, they can simply be disconnected to see if it goes away.

Unfortunately those were the most easiest to check, now you'll need a wiring diagram and a meter to start an extensive check.

nope it sure wasnt, i checked em all, both sides, all the bulbs were good, but i did think of something that i forgot to mention in my first post, this problem has been goin on for about 6 months, the first 2 or 3 months that it was happening, it was intermitent (sp?), and then slowly it started doin it more and more, now it does it all the time and has been for past 2 months or so, hopefully that might help you guys out with ideas for diagnosing the problem

Intermittant problems are a PITA, but if it's doing it all the time, very easy to locate. You'll need a wiring diagram and a meter to start checking. Unplug one thing at a time, then check each connection for a open / short. Since it occurs when you apply the brakes, start there. Trace all the wiring on that circuit and unplug what you can so you can narrow down the problem location. Personally it sounds like a few wires are shorted together.

heres a new twist on this problem, now when the left turn signal is put on, and the brakes are applied, the right arrow still goes solid, but now the left arrow flashes really fast

Dude, your junk is wrecked.

Just make it a buggy and you won't need any brake lights or turn signals.

You get your tires mounted yet?

Still sounds like a shorted bulb or bulb socket, especially since it started and got continually worse. Corrosion in the sockets can do this. The rapid flash indicates a high amp draw, as in short - not to ground, but to another circuit. I would try one bulb at a time - take it out, clean the socket, test with the bulb out. Go to next one. It could also be the switch assembly in the column, but without the wiring diagram that would be a pain to try to test.
