Cool ECT Power

After all of the threads on ECT power, I decided to give mine a try. Since last week, I engaged my ECT power button and had some crazy (and unexpected results).

As expected, the trck felt stronger (there's no mystery to that). The engine revved longer and gave me more power in all facets of driving. However, the one thing that blew my mind, was the fact that my gas mileage didn't diminish at all. I usually get around 265 mi/tank with the ECT button in the OFF position. The past tanks of gas I got 270 mi/tank and this past tank is at 240 miles and I have 1/4 tank left... easily good for another 30-40 miles. I made sure that I drove the same as I did with the ECT off in order to get an accurate read.

I can only assume that the people who got much less gas mileage (20% less than normal from past posts) were excited at the extra power the ECT button gave them and they just floored it everytime they press the gas pedal.

Anyone else experience this? Give it a try while driving normal (no flooring it unless you need to) and see if you get better mileage now. Good luck.

I've always driven with the ECT on. Running a bit higher RPMs helps minimize carbon build up...

I average 320mptank around town and I've gotten as much as 360mptank interstate.

I have kept strict fillup-to-fillup mileage records for years. I've experimented with the ECT and also have not seen any significant change in fuel consumption. Needless to say, I keep the ECT in "Power" all the time for the extra "pep".

And, I typically get 19.5-20 mpg. So that would be... 351-360 miles per tank.

I keep the ECT PWR light on all the time. The only benefit I've noticed so far is it makes me feel good inside.

How big is the gas tank on the 98 T4R? Mine has never filled up past 14.5 gallons... so I assumed it was like a 15 gallon tank. I based on that, I thought I was getting about 18 mpg.

Cool On a side note...

Does anyone have a problem with the low fuel light going on when you have plenty of gas? Mine randomly goes on and off when it wants. I can fill 'er to the brim and still get a low fuel light. It's annoying... especially at night when it's glowing larger than life when I have tons of gas left! Any suggestions as to why it does that or how to fix it!!!

Wow, sounds like a fun project. Guess I'll just leave mine be since I don't understand 3/4 of what was said and to pay someone to fix it would be several hundred dollars. Thanks for the link <TDiddy>.

320? 360? Holy smokes! On a good day I get 260 per tank, and by then the low-fuel light has been on for 30 miles. I average about 17MPG so far, but I am still collecting data after the SC'r install.
