Dual Exhaust questions for 2000 4Runner?

stupid questions i know....

Does dual exhaust use 1 or 2 mufflers, does it increase performance (hp, gas mileage), does the dual exhaust setup sound louder than just 1 pipe? Any help is appreciated. Sorry for the stupidity!

It'll look and sound cool but the best performance gains are just to stick with the single slightly larger catback setup since any performance gains will be negated by the weight of the extra piping and muffler.

dual exhaust only serves a purpose with a vehicle with dual headers and straight pipes, with no single cat to bring to center then split again.
