driveshaft noise
I burried my 93 4runner a few weeks ago and since i got it out of the mud i've had a whining noise coming from the rear end. My pinion sela was leaking so i replaced that and the pinion bearings assuming that they had gotten mud in them. However this didn't fix the problem so now i'm left wondering if its the u-joints..... My next problem is when i took the driveshaft down it separated where it slides in and out. When this happened this plastic piece came out and im not sure what it was. there wasn't much left of it so i didn't put it back in now i have a pretty good vibration when i accelerate. can someone point me in the right direction please

This may sound a little dumb, but is there fluid in the rear diff? I smacked a diff once, and cracked it, drained all the fluid out, and didn't know it until it was too late.... It made a whining noise too. I'll look around and see if I can' find anything about 2nd gen driveshafts, I'm only familiar with my 1st gen.

Since you seperated the driveshaft, you must make sure you put it back together correctly. When you look at the driveshaft the yokes have to be inline to each other from one end to the other. It's kind of hard to explain without a pic. If you just slid it on without noticing the alignment, it may be out of balance.
