Draged raced a WRX today...

...and beat him!

Here is how it happened:

I go to work on the Berlin Turnpike in Ct (for those of you who are familar with it). It is a long two lane highway, but there is a traffic light every few miles to let the opposite traffic cross.

I was going to work and passed this guy in a new Suburu WRX (for anyone who doesn't know, a WRX is a all wheel drive turbo that makes about 220 hp). As soon as I passed him he laid into the thing and cought and passed me like I was not allowed to be going faster than him. Well, the next light turned red and we were right next to eachother at the light. When the light turned green, we both took off. He got me just a little out of the hole, but when he shifted into second I cought him. He was not "granny" shifting the thing either. He was making good shifts right at the redliine. My passenger window was open so I could hear everything he was doing.

From then on, every time he shifted, I pulled away from him. He was not able to make the ground back up. When we let off, I had him by about a car and a half. We were going about 100 mph at this point. He was getting ready to shift into 5th gear.

Man, was he PISSED! You could really tell.

When we got to the next light, he would not even look at me. He was probably sitting there brooding and wondering why he bought a $28,000 sports car. He just got his ass kicked by a 5,000lb. pick up truck. The worst part is that he doesn't know what hit him. I am sure that he knows nothing about supercharged Tacomas. He just thinks that his sports car got beat by a regular old v6 pick up.

As you could probably guess, I am pretty proud of the whole situation. I had no idea that this would be the outcome. I thought the WRX would kill me. Seeing is believing. My truck beat a WRX in a real drag race, fair and square. Add that to the list of uses for a Tacoma.

Wicked man! That sounds like a great time.

I've thought about a supercharger for a while & that's one more reason to go for it.

wat r u riding? do u have a taco with a supercharger. u have tons more torque than him too so u probably pulled away as he shifted. sweet though. wait till i tell my rice rocket brother with a lowered honda accord, a taco beat a wrx! hahaha good job!

my friend has a land cruiser than can pretty much stomp on most rice rockets. he has a high output chevy crate 350 with a funny car trans. it is wicked and deadly fast. but u dont want to go over 80mph, TOO SCARRY! hehe

i had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago....i was out at the local street races and some guy in a black wrx thought he was so fast... we raced from a stop and went until my fuel cut out at about 110.... he was soooo mad because a 4runner beat him with about 50 witnesses. it was great.

I hate RiceRockets who think they are fast. When I am riding wtih my friend in his 2002 Mustang GT, everytime he pulls up to a redlight and a Ricerocket is beside him they rev at him and want to race and we blow their doors off haha, Then sometimes they get pissed off and use Nitrous and he has a 4.10 gear and he still beats them. I would love to see A Toyota truck beat them. My friend has a 3.4 TRD Supercharged Taco too but it's an automatic but still pretty fast, 265 HP with the Supercharger.

I just want a V8, I wouldn't mind having a supercharged 3.4 V6, I do love that whining sound but I like the beefy sound and all that torque better

How about a blown TRD 4.7L, I dont even know how much power that thing makes but its nasty. Another thing I like is that the engine is butter smooth too, much more than the 3.4, I guess it has to be since its used in Lexus' too.

I found this post from the "street racing" thread.... I'm about a month late but whatever.

First off, congrats!

Just one question: can your truck take 90 degree turns at 60mph+ (mine can't)? B/c my friend's wrx can . It was never meant to be a drag car, the guys with wrx's that race in a straight line are pretty silly in my opinion.

And I wouldn't call the wrx a rice rocket..........

I'm not trying to stir anything up, just playing devil's advocate.

Good point. No, my truck can't take turns at 60mph...but my bike can. At almost any speed you have the gutts for.

Don't forget that a 5100 pound pickup truck was also not made to race in a strait line.

Don't get me wrong. I have a great appreciation for the WRX. My brother has a 2000 RS that is all sorts of hooked up ( turbo, intercooler, serious remote adjustable suspention, just for starters). The WRX should not be refered to as a "rice burner". That term should be reserved for Civics with wheels and a big coffee can exhaust.

But MAN, you should have seen the look on that guy's face!

It seems that most guys usually get charged $300-400 to have them installed by a dealer. Some get it cheaper, and I'm sure some are more expensive...

Right now you can buy the blower itself for about $1700.

ha ha...

I like the mustang GT post-- I raced my 4x2 taco against a mustang cobra on I-80 and whipped the crap out of it... you should have seen the look on HIS face. Especially since i removed the governor, we took it all the way out to 147 ( my max speed at redline ) with my truck just a little bit in front the whole way!-- ok maybe i shouldnt say i beat it by a lot, but it didnt beat me in any gear. There is nothing i hate more than stock domestic car owners thinking that their cars are faster than anything on the road just because it has 8 cylinders. glad to hear that story about the WRX--but those cars are crazy around corners.
