Door handle loose...

Hi All,
I'd just like to introduce myself. My name is Wayne and I've been checking out this site the last few months after getting my 2000 4Rrunner last fall. Lots of very knowledgable people out there and I'm learning tons.

The vehicle has been great up here in our Winnipeg winter. Stock tires not the best on our snow/ice roads but 4wd sure gets you there.
A stretch of -45C weather likely contributed to the water pump failing. Had that and the timing belt done at 115000K

Awhile back, someone keyed my passenger side rear panel and door. Through to the metal and about 5 feet long. I could go on ...
I just got it back from the bodyshop and noticed that the rear passenger door handle (which they had to remove) is a bit loose along the top. That is the rubber gasket is away from the exterior door a bit. I called them up and they are going to get at it tomorrow. I'm concerned about water getting in there.
Can anyone comment about how the handle is fastened in there and is there adjustment to snug it up? Better question for the bodyshop guys tomorrow I know but just curious.

Thanks for the reply Eh.

There should be some little tabs that the handle surround slides up into the door shell to retain it, then two 10mm bolts one on each side left and right, and possibly some similar tabs on the bottom edge of the handle surround so it snaps into the door panel. Then there are the rods that attach for the lock cylinder and latch mechanism. I would do a search on ebay and see if you can find one with pictures of the back so you know what you're looking at to remove the old one and determine if something is broken and keeping it from holding close to the door shell.

HERE is an auction with a decent pic.

Still seeking an answer for this...

I'm new here and have enjoyed learning a ton of info about my 02 T4R LTD 4x4. Thank you one and ALL!
Among the things I am trying to fix is this one. Both my front doors have loose handles. I have had the drivers door panel off and there is nothing broken, disconnected or loose. I did remove and reinstall both mounting bolts to the handle and torqued it pretty tight... but it is no tighter in the door. I saw somewhere where someone said they sometimes need new rubber "gaskets" between the handle and the door but these really seem fine. I ordered a new one and it actually looks a little thinner than the original. I thought about trying to find or make rubber washers for between the handle and where the bolt attaches, but I'd like to hear if any one has any sure fire fixes. I looked for about 2 years before I bought this one and don't remember finding this on any I looked at and really haven't seen any answers here or other forums.
So, if there is anyone out there who can make any suggestion(s) I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance!
