Dog Co-pilot off-roading?
For those off-roaders with dogs, do you usually take your furry buddy along, and if so, what (if any) precautions do you take about keeping them safe?

I've seen a harness that goes around the dogs body and neck - like one of those harnesses for walking a dog. It has an attachment that locks into a seatbelt clip. I try to keep my dogs on the floor in the backseat area or in the cargo area in the back so they don't get injured if I have to stop suddenly.

Absolutely!
Depending on the terrain, we have harnesses that clip in to the seatbelts to keep them from flying around.
Although there've been times powering (slowly) over rocky terrain where it was easier on them to be able to move around a bit...
Does make it hard to use the mirrors when there's an australian shepard in each one, though!

Funny that you posted this today, as my new 4WD & SUV magazine came today.
In the back is an ad to Mutt Slingers.
Roll over, no problem for this bowser.

That's pretty funny! I usually keep him in the back, with the seats folded down, I'm always afraid of stopping quick and having him slingshot into the front seat, or worse, through the windshield. I guess it would be just as easy to buy a harness and attach it to the stock anchor points in the back of the 4-runner.
