does your sunroof do this?

So opening my sunroof is fine. Either tilt or sliding back. however, when i close it from a fully slid back position, it closes half way, then stops. i have to get my finger off the rocker button, and depress it again and itll slide to the fully closed positing.

i cant think of any reason why it would do this. there is nothing in its tracks...its like the power to the motor just abruptly stops. half way through....

its been like this since i got it, but hasnt really bothered me...till now.

opinions wanted
thanks

They all do that. It's a safety feature, I believe. Not sure what year that started. Pain in the ass, IMO.

The motors usually have a safety feature to stop in the case the current draw is too high. So, I would lube the tracks with some moly grease.

2001 here, and it does the same thing, always has, probably always will, I think it's supposed to be a safety feature so you don't close your hand in it or something, but on cars Ive driven, they used to close all the way.

My 98 does the same thing. I'm guessing it stops like that in case you're trying to close it while someone else has their head/hand sticking out.

hmm..ok thanks. yeah, other roofs ive had didnt incorporate that 'safety feature'....annoying, but odd. a greywire mod would be trick! actually, it'd be really pimp to incorporate the controls from the late model audi/vw's...with the dial.

thanks guys

yeah the audi set up was the best... just turn dial to desired open/closeness and push... boom.. automatically it was there. I really like that on my A4

Yeah, my '98 does that too. It's a pretty neat feature now that I think about it considering those motors are not weak at all. When I first got my truck, I thought my sunroof was broken. quickly turned into though.

Yes, it gets annoying after a while especially if you don't have many friends hanging out above there (remember those high school days?) and a better solution would've been to add a pressure sensor but I guess Toyota found it too expensive at the time or whatever. At least this is a foolproff switch in case your sunroof ever goes crazy on you. I don't know how reliable the pressure sensors are.

actully, now that i think about it. Going highway speeds, I drive with the sunroof only half way open becuase of the howling roof rack basket... so the feature is kinda nice I guess

It is a safety feature. You have to consciously know to press it again so thus you will make sure no one has their head stuck in it or anything. That comes straight from a yota dealership.

cheers

I don't know if it's a safety feature so much as a nice design.

I had an 89 Corolla SR5 that had a moon roof. It would stop at the half way point when closing also. About the same place that the switch would stop it.

Hmmm, good though. But on my 4Runner I think it closes past the half-way mark, at about the width of a regular human neck for lack of better measurements.

Let me go check, call 9-1-1 if I don't come back...

Nah, scratch that
