It's pretty easy to determine if you have a low fuel light or even if it still works. If your '92 is like my '88, which I believe it is, all you got to do is loosen the drain plug on the bottom of the gas tank and drain the fuel out. Turn the ignition on but DON'T start it. If you have the low-fuel light sender it should glow rather brightly now. Also, wait until your almost on E on the gauge before you attempt to do this.
To drain the remaining fuel still left in the tank, jack the back up on stands and then place a large bucket under the drain hole to catch the remaining fuel in the tank. You'll be suprised how much gas is still in there even when dash gauge says E. A 5-gallon bucket worked good for me.
Even with the SR5 cluster swap, the low-fuel light won't work unless you change to the low-fuel light gas tank sender also. The chassis wiring is there, but the little resister thingie on the bottom of the sender inside the tank is not on base-cluster equipped PU's. At least in '88 that is.

My 91 x-cab pick up looks like it has a spot for one (you can kind of see the place where it would be in the sunlight) but I have never had it come on, so I'm not sure if it really has one or not.
On my 92 runner, it comes one whenever I get close to empty.
