Does anyone ever use “Auto” mode on the climate control?

It never seems to do what I want. Or, put another way, it always does something I don’t want. If anyone uses it and finds it works, any hints? It seems like a total waste to me.

On a related note, has anyone come up with a way to prevent the climate control from going into re-circulate mode each time they start the car? The first thing I need to do is flush out the stale stuffy hot air, and re-circulate is not the way to do that!

Thanks,
Tom

I was reading the manual on my mom's 2002 ES300, according to what it says, it only goes to recirculate when the AC is on and its over 85 outside. I am not sure if the 4th gen 4Runners are the same, but if it is, there is no way to override automatically, you will just have to push the button.

I use the auto mode all the time and dont have any issues with it. It is probably not precise temperature-wise, but I find it is generally in the ball park.

Might be because it is the summer and I generally keep it on low all the time.

There's not many options or modes to put it in, so I dont think there could be any tricks.

I havent noticed the recirculation thing, but I will pay attention and see what I notice.
