Does a '98 3.4L have an ign module?

Yes. Go to the autoparts store and look one up. I am not sure if the ECM takes care of that because all that module would do is control the coils and power them up so check to make sure.

There is an ignition module..Its a flat black thin looking,10(?) pin componant bolted on the RF fender below the MAF........Although an ignition module is very rare for the 4runner its very rare to see one go bad in a Toyota period,Usually will have no spark at all on any coil pack or no turning on and off of the coil-for-distributer system....
