Do your tires ever pick up rocks between the lugs? I was turning right onto a street and there were some rocks strewn out on the road, as I was driving I hear a loud bang I thought I had thrown another weight. I drive another 20 feet and bang. I pull over in the next side street, all my weights are still on, all my lug nuts are still on. I notice when I park in my gravel driveway I usually have a rock stuck in between the lugs of the tires. So does this happen to any of you???

 

It happens all the time especially with the BFG ATs I was on a dirt road yesterday for 20 miles and had tons of rocks stuck in between the lugs but most of them fly off when you hit pavement.

 

I second that...my BFG ATs do that anytime I go over small gravel or rocks from construction. What really sucks is when it throws that rock when you're going 70 or so on the highway.

 

ditto.... my BFG AT's do that all the time.

 

All the time. My muds do it at least once a week. Just need the right size rock and it'll stick for a little bit.

Must be a BFG thing Have any of you noticed scratches from these rocks, or are they usually thrown into the wheel well? I'm just relieved it wasn't something else flying off my truck

 

No scratches...but then again, I'm one of the rare ones who still has his running boards. They're pretty good at deflecting rocks, mud and fresh cow pies.

 

I am running the Big ole' mud flaps that came with the truck, so I am not too worried. But I thought I'd ask and also put it out there for anyone else wondering the same...

 

I don't have any flaps on my truck, and the lower body panels show it. Chips everywhere. Also get the occasional big rock to the back wall of the cab too, one time it was so loud that I thought someone was shooting at me.

 

Do it all the time(my driveway is a long gravel road). But I haven't had any paint chip problems. And my tires stick out too. No mudflaps. Hmm... I'm kinda surprised that I don't have chips. Maybe you need a nice thick layer of mud or dirt. A nice layer of protection!

 

This is why I don't like the BFG AT KOs. My Bridgestones never had this annoying habit. Plus, after cutting the bottom of the mud flaps they spit outta the tire and into my rear chrome bumper. You can see little dents from the inside-out where the rocks hit after coming out of the tread at high speed. Good excuse for a custom rear bumper. Still don't like BFG ATs though...

After I've been on gravel, I pull over & get as many rocks out of the tires before I get on the highway so they don't spit out and needlessly crack windshields of vehicles behind me.

 

I don't have BFGs...I have Wildcat EXTs (from Les Schwab).

I think all tires with sufficient void can have this happen. All you need is the right size rock. It's not too scientific...

My 12.50 wide Mtr's pick up rocks but not like I thought they would. Ive got a couple of chips that went clear down to the metal. Once I have some money Im gonna take the truck and get from the body line down rino lined so I dont have to worry about it anymore.

 

I have the BFG mud ko and there is this rock road we go down every time we go mudding and when i leave thats all you here is ping pow wham bamb from the rocks flinging out. we now call them the Big F$%&ing (rock) Grabbers (BFG). They are magnets I tell you. no chips they hit the inner fender thank god

 

My MTRs will throw rock hard enough some times I can feel it under my foot though the firewall.

This used to really freak me out. My cab is never really a quiet place but those unexpected bangs used to scare me to the point of pulling over to check things out to see if it was all there.

I'm used to it now, so are my doors and rockers. Its really funny when i'm doing 70 with a new passenger and it happens. They get scared and ask what it was. I usually tell them that its a bad muffler bearing and I just haven't replaced it. Most of them beleive me.
