This is the only rear photo I have with the seats folded flat...
Can't really see anything though

Take the seat part of the rear seats out, then the back of the rear seats fold flat.

how do you fold up the seat part(the part you sit on) I looked at one today and i could only get it to fold down like halfway. the owner thought that was as far as it goes.

There is a loop of webbing in the crevice between seat bottom and back rest, if it is not visible you may have to reach in and fell for it, then pull and it will release the seat bottom. The webbing loop is near the receiving part of the seatbelt.

Funny...when I first got my runner, I didn't know the seat part folded up either. The only reason I found out is when I went looking for the jack and opened the owners guide. I was so freakin excited cuz I found a new place to keep more crap. HAHA.

I flip the bottom part of my seat up and haul a cooler and my tool box on
the carpet when I am 4 wheeling. The cooler is easy to get to
and the tool box does not jump around - because the seat belt is used to hold it down. There is also a single shot 12 ga. in a gun protector there handy for snakes and stuff
Never know when you might have to kill a wild beer can !!!!!!

It is also handy for bringing home groceries without messing with the damn
electric rear window.

I'm a Loser

I've had my runner for almost 2 years and I didn't know about the seat bottom folding up. It's funny to, cause I was just thinking the other day that the Toyota engineers are usually bright enough to think of stuff like that... Well I guess I know whose not brigth now!!! hahaha!

If you lift the bottom of the seat and fold it against the driver seat and passenger seat - remove the head rest from the back portion of the rear seat
pull the handle and the seat will lay flat. One could sleep back there !

Somebody earlier mentioned un-bolting the bottom portion of the rear seat and then folding down the back - will allow more sleep space.
I leave my rear window down and the tail gate open - connect a tarp to the luggage rack and it stays dry in the runner. Lot's of options here !!!!
