distributor doesn't spin nor come out.

Got an 84 22R. Long story short but I just bought it. The guy said it was his daily driver 2 weeks ago, before it died on him. I get it home and start checkin' on why it cranks but won't start. Fuel...got it, Air....yah sure got it too, Spark.....No spark! Check a bit further and find the distributor isn't spinning when the enigne is being cranked. OK, go to pull it and it won't come out. Spins freely in there and has some play, not much, but WILL NOT pull out.

I'm pretty sure all I need it to replace the distributor but I can't get the existing out out!!! According to the manual, it supposed to pull right out.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Possible broken timing chain. Pull the vavle cover and take a peak.

LOL That is my exact plan for tomorrow evening!!

Why would that keep the distributor from coming out though?

The distributor is probably just stuck, try hitting it with a rubber mallet and pulling at the same time. You didt take the hold down bolt out right?

Hey man, I don't know if it's the timing chain but I can help you out if it is. I replaced mine a few months ago. When I replaced my timing chain, the distributor pulled out with a good hard pull. I am here at TU if you'd like me to help out with the timing chain.

Try rotating the shaft back and forth while you pull it up, Dont think I would hit it with a hammer, Could damage the gears on the end of the shaft.

Ever tork on a socket only to have the nut stuck so you rotate it the other direction to unlock the pressure, Same thing could be happening between the gears on the end of the shaft.

I've been busy and haven't had time to tear in to it. I'm still preppin' my Coma for a run this weekend. Did tinker a little more but that's just cause I needed a smoke and it don't make sense to be standin' outside next to it and not tinkerin' with it.

Grams:..the shaft will not move back or forth at all. The distributor case will spin freely. Yes. I am very familiar with the socket phenominon you speak of.

I'm thinkin' it's definately a broken timing chain and the cam is resting against the distributors gears (as you mentioned). I'll give 'er a good yank and see if it pulls free. If not, I'll just start rippin' it apart. Goina have to do that anyways.

Thanks yaul!!!
